From the director that brought you Final Destination 2, and Snakes on a Plane, David R. Ellis, comes a movie that fits perfectly into Shark Bites month in the boringly named Shark Night, or Shark Night 3D if you're nasty. It's like game night but with more shark-related deaths.
Starring a solid cast of close-ups of ladies butts underwater, and some named actors as well, Shark Night is a feast for the B-movie senses. It has bikinis, multiple jokes about spray-tanned penises, and a one-armed man fighting a hammerhead shark with a spear. If you read that sentence and still don't want to see this film, then there is no convincing you.
The plot has to do with some hokey story about a group of yokels who release hundreds of sharks into a saltwater lake with a plan to kidnap rich people and film them being eaten by said sharks. Then they will sell the videos to people who like Shark Week so much that they crave the real thing. Seriously, that's the plot. Honestly, I am surprised a whole, "get eaten by a shark" challenge hasn't blown up on Youtube yet. Unluckily for the group of main characters, who are just a group of college fun lovers, they get caught up in the middle of this horrendously stupid plan and must find a way to survive.
A lot of the shark kills are fun in an over the top way, with a few of them being laugh out loud goofy. That includes an explosive ending for one of the villains, which is pure gold. Couple that with how the ladies in this movie seem to refuse to change out of their tiny bikinis, no matter how bad the night gets, and the complete lack of common sense used by anyone in the film, and you have a recipe for disaster and awesome.
Although I am not a huge fan of the Final Destination series, knowing Ellis directed this and Final Destination 2, I kind of want a Shark death only sequel now. Maybe Shark Night 2: The Final Destinationing. I'd preorder that mess! As for Shark Night, it's fun, goofy, and makes very little sense, but that's what is so charming about it.
